The initial challenge for local businesses is getting found. If your prospective customers don’t know where you are or how to reach you, you lose business. Using internet marketing to answer that challenge is one of attracting traffic to your website or blog. Because search engines appear to like blogs better than static web sites, our local portal strategy is blog based. Search engines also use backlinks (links to your site from ranked sites) as an indicator of the possible value to searchers that your blog site represents. So, in addition to the use of keywords and SEO (search engine optimization) for natural search, we add the traffic benefits of blogs and the linking of related sites in a local focused blog network. Our example is the Local Biz Builder Blog Network that is focused on the city and businesses of Mountain View, CA. Why? Because that is where we live and work. Familiarity and a passion for improving the economic environment for doing business in Mountain View make that an easy choice.

That’s the general idea for our Local Portal Strategy. Stay tuned for how we go about implementing it , the challenges we face and how we respond to those challenges. There are two bottom lines we are concerned with here: Ours and those of the Mountain View businesses we hope to attract to our portal blogs and the implementation of the strategy.
This strategy is definitely not a “business in a box” approach on our part. It will take a lot of effort to be successful. We can use all the help we can get. Comments and suggestions are welcomed.
For an economically thriving and enjoyable place to live we pledge our efforts to the businesses of Mountain View and to their customers (new and existing).
